TOWN OF PALM BEACH

Historic Markers & Fascinating Homes

The History of Palm Beach

In the 1870’s, Palm Beach island is where pioneers first settled, at a time when the area was part of Dade County. Not only did they plant coconuts, they also had a large pineapple farm. These days “the island” is known for impressive-looking mansions, with many designed by famed architect Addison Mizner, and the shopping mecca of Worth Avenue.

Activities in Palm Beach

A favorite activity is biking/walking/jogging along the Palm Beach Trail which is over 5 miles long, much of the path borders the western side of Palm Beach with views of Lake Worth Lagoon and the city of West Palm Beach. You can rent a bike for a few hours and start on the north side of Royal Poinciana Way near the Palm Beach Biltmore Condominiums between Sunset and Park Avenues. There are many historic markers, fascinating homes and statuesque trees along the way.
